Work-Related Stress And Mindfulness
Mindfulness practices are very effective in controlling workplace-related stress and many companies even introduced mindfulness-based workplace programs to improve the mental health of their employees. In a recent study, 30 people working in a large oil company were trained in mindfulness-based stress reduction for 16 weeks. After the study, it was found that all 30 participants experienced stress reduction, mood improvements, self-compassion, and self-efficiency. There was a significant reduction in the blood cortisol levels. Additionally, diastolic and systolic blood pressure was observed in the participants at the end of the 16-week study.
Another study looked at the effects of mindfulness in improving job satisfaction and workplace-related stress and anxiety. The participants of this study were 15 staff and faculty from 2 universities in Australia. The participants underwent a modified mindfulness-based stress reduction for 7 weeks. For the first 4 weeks of the study, the participants were offered 60 to 90-minute lessons on mindfulness. The lessons include instructions on integrating mindfulness into their daily lives and performing a full-body scan, etc. The participants reported significant improvement and heightened awareness, improved focus, lesser negative thoughts, and better attention to the physical tension, etc.
The results of both the studies were encouraging and they suggest that mindfulness may be an effective way to deal with work-related stress. The practice of mindfulness will help put a significant gap between you and your emotions. It will help you to be calm, alert, self-aware, and present!
